Farming practices in the Yirgacheffe region have remained largely traditional and nearly all farms are organic by default. Farmers tends to use very few very, if any, fertilizers or pesticides. The majority of coffees grown in Yirgacheffe are local landrace varities which are also commonly referred to as heirloom varieties. These varieties have naturally mutated over the years and proven to be efficient in yield, resistance to disease and quality of cherry.
